Apple Rum Cake

What you need:

1 measuring cup of all-purpose flour, measured after spooning into the cup and leveling off.
2 teaspoons of baking soda
“Salt, 1/4 teaspoon”
half a cup of stick unsalted butter, left out in the open
one third cup of granulated sugar, plus more to sprinkle on top of cake
two big eggs.
1/8 teaspoon of vanilla flavoring
Three tablespoons of dark rum.
Chop three and a half to four cups of apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith) into ½-inch cubes after peeling and coreing them.
For the cake’s decoration, confectioners’ sugar (optional).
